WordPress Websites at UMass Amherst F.A.Q.

UMass Amherst WordPress websites are hosted by CampusPress, a WordPress-powered platform designed for higher education websites.

WordPress offers university faculty, staff, and students a reliable and easy-to-use platform used to create and manage personal websites to convey individual interests and topics.

WordPress websites are primarily intended to meet the web publishing needs of faculty, staff, and students. This includes, but is not limited to, personal interests, research lab websites, personal scholarly websites, student organization websites, and some smaller group and sub-unit websites. However, WordPress websites are not a suitable replacement for official department and unit-level websites, which should be developed within IT’s Drupal web hosting option.

IT’s WordPress service is open to all students, faculty, and staff at UMass Amherst. To log in to your website, go to websites.umass.edu and log in using your NetID and password. Your WordPress website will be automatically created after your first login.

What is my WordPress website’s URL?

Your WordPress website’s URL is https://websites.umass.edu/NetID/ Where NetID is your IT Account NetID. Note: We cannot change the URL for your website.

How do I create a WordPress website for a team or group?

WordPress sites can be automatically provisioned for a team or group with an existing subsidiary account in the same manner as an individual account. Many teams or groups already have an IT email account (subsidiary account) they use for special functions (e.g., as a contact email address). We recommend that staff members use this account to log in to websites.umass.edu and to create a website for their group.

If you do not have an email account for your group, please follow the listed instructions on how to request a subsidiary IT account.

As a reminder, WordPress is not intended for hosting official department and unit-level websites.
