There is a Badges tool available in Canvas and Catalog that you could use for automatically generating and awarding students based on their course completion.
If you are going to be the ‘person/department’ who creates and manages the badges, then you need to create an account at https://badgr.com/auth/signup.
To connect the issuer with your Canvas course:
Step 1: Open your Canvas course, and click on Badges on the course navigation menu on the left side.
Step 2: Input the email you use for your badgr account.
Step 3: Once you have entered the verification code and login, you will be able to select the issuer that you have control of and want to use.
Step 4: On the Setup page, click on the Add badge button.
Step 5: You will be able to select the badge that you created. Select the relevant requirements for the badge to be automatically rewarded to students who have met the completion criteria.
Note: To make completion of a specific activity or module the criteria for receiving the badge, you must turn on the ‘Requirement’ within the module first.
To do so: Go to the Module’s page, locate the specific module, click on the three dots on the right top corner, and select Edit. Click on Requirement. Specify the requirements.
Step 6: Don’t forget to click on the Save button.
