In Canvas, “Modules” are an organizational tool that instructors can use to structure course content. Using Modules, instructors can organize content (assignments, reading materials, etc.) by week, thematic unit, outcome, and so on.   
 
Why Use Modules? 

Modules are useful for several reasons: 

• They ensure a sequential flow of content in your course. In this way, Modules help your students navigate their course.  
• Using Modules, instructors can require students to complete a unit before proceeding to the next one. This is useful if instructors need students to finish reading or viewing materials before they begin work on an assignment, for instance.  
• Because each individual Module can contain various activities and resources (learning materials, assignments, quizzes, discussion forums, and so on), instructors can use modules to create self-contained units in their course. 

Are there risks that come with using Modules in my course? 
 
Canvas supports and typically runs smoothly with up to 100 Modules in a course. Using more than 100 Modules can affect your course’s performance. Please consult with us at IML if you plan to create more than 100 Modules in your course.

Canvas Training and Resources (On-Demand)

This course contains a wide variety of resources including a Canvas course checklist, video and written tutorials, sample courses, and access to 24/7 support. The course is "on-demand" meaning that you can access it at any time. 

To access this "Canvas Training and Resources" course, you can simply self-enroll by following these steps:

1. Click on this link: https://umamherst.instructure.com/enroll/WDGJ8T
2. Log into Canvas with your NetID@umass.edu and password.
3. Click on Enroll in Course  OR  Go to the Course to access the course.

You should now see the "Canvas Training and Resources" course on your Canvas dashboard.
