The Update Classes option allows you to update your enrollment preferences (e.g., number of credits, instructor's name, grading options) for classes that you have already added to your schedule. It is best to make these changes before the end of the registration period.
- On your SPIRE Center, select the Manage Classes tile.
- Click Add, Drop, & Edit Classes then Update Classes from the left-hand menu.
- On the Choose classes to update page: Choose the class section you want to update. If you want to change a lab or discussion section, select the class which is associated with the discussion or lab you wish to switch.
- In the Step 1 of 3: Alternative Class Options you will see a list of all the possible permutations of Class + Lab/Discussion sections possible (If there is a lab/discussion associated with the class). Carefully select the new intended combination of Class + Lab/Discussion, from the list, and click on the Next button on the top-right of the window.
- In the Step 2 of 3: Class Preferences you will verify the class preferences including the Grading Basis for the new class section. Once you have verified the same, click on the Accept button on the top right of the window.
- In the Step 3 of 3: Review and Submit you will review all the changes made to the specific class section, including the timing, professor, location, and the class preferences before clicking on the Submit button to confirm the intended changes.
- On the View results page, review the status of your edits:
- A green check mark () indicates that your edits were successful.
- A red x () indicates an error. Carefully read the message associated with this error, and click Fix Errors if this is an error that you can fix yourself (e.g., a time conflict that you could resolve by dropping another class, etc.). You will return to the Select classes to add page. If this is an error that you cannot fix, contact the academic department that offers this class or the Registrar's Office (209 Whitmore, 413.545.0555) for more information.
Note: You must delete any 'unfixable' classes from your Shopping Cart. Otherwise, SPIRE will try to re-add them when you click Proceed to Step 2 of 3 next, and you will get an error every time.
Click My Class Schedule to view your revised class schedule.
If you want to update your enrollment preferences for a class, on the left-hand menu head to Add, Drop, & Edit Classes and then Elect Pass/Fail-after Add/Drop:

- Select the course for which you want to elect Pass/Fail, and then click on the Elect Pass/Fail button next to the desired class.
