Microsoft offers the Stream video hosting service as part of the Office 365 suite of services.
Microsoft stream is a cloud hosted video platform that allows users to interact with and view uploaded and live video content. Users with elevated permissions can upload video content and create channels & groups. Stream offers granular controls for setting audience permissions and for designing how those audiences can interact with video content, offering such features as comments, forms, and automatically created closed captions. Videos uploaded to Stream can be shared via URL, email, or embedded in a webpage. To view video content users will need to authenticate with their UMass Amherst credentials.
All UMass Amherst faculty, staff, students, and departments have access to the Microsoft Stream Service and can view content.
Select Faculty, Staff, and Departments have the ability to create channels and upload video content to Microsoft Stream.
Further, those Faculty, Staff, and Departments may request elevated access to Stream to create campus wide channels. These channels allow content to be accessed and viewed by all UMass Amherst community members. Please email it@umass.edu with your request. Campus wide channel creation permissions are granted at the discretion of UMass Amherst IT.
UMass Amherst users who upload content to Microsoft Stream must agree to the Video Content Upload Policy prior to being given upload permission. The policy is viewable here: https://www.umass.edu/it/policies/video-content-policy
Microsoft Stream is available to UMass Amherst students, faculty, and staff at no additional cost.
