Use iTunes U to view or download educational materials, including free lectures, videos, books, and other resources on thousands of subjects. On tablets, smartphones, and other mobile devices, the optimal way to access iTunes U content is through a mobile app.

Access iTunes on iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad

To access iTunes U on your iOS device, you need to install the iTunes U app first. This is not the same as the default iTunes Store app installed on all iOS devices. Note: You can search for iTunes U content using the iTunes Store app, but you will be prompted to use the iTunes U app to view and download materials from the iTunes U catalog.

These instructions were developed using the iTunes U 1.4 app (v.1.4.1.902) on an iPhone 5 (iOS 7.1.1). Steps may vary for other versions of iTunes U or other iOS devices and operating systems.

  1. Go to the App Store and search for iTunes U. The iTunes U app screen appears.
  2. On the iTunes U app screen, tap the cloud icon to install the app on your device. You may be prompted for your Apple ID and password.

  4. In the iTunes U app, use options at the bottom of the screen (Charts, Browse, Search) to locate courses and collections.
  5. On a course or collection home page, you can access individual lectures, podcasts, and related documents, share files, and subscribe to course updates.
