SPIRE uses a 4-digit code to represent each academic term. Occasionally you will need to enter a term code to search for records or to run a query. You will often find a lookup button that allows you to search for the term code using its description. In some cases, you may not have a lookup button and will need to know how term codes are constructed.
Term codes break down according to a clear pattern, as shown in the table below. The first three digits relate to the calendar year of the term you wish to search. The fourth digit for any given term has its own pattern: odd numbers 1, 3, 5, and 7 represent the seasons starting at the beginning of the calendar year.
Digit Position | Represents | Example |

1 = 2000s |
2nd & 3rd digits | the year (last 2 digits) | 15 = 2015 |
4th digit | the term |
