Quickly report a phishing message in Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Outlook includes options to quickly report a potential scam or phishing message. 
Follow these instructions to quickly report phishing messages in Microsoft Outlook

 


 

To report potential phishing messages directly to the Information Security team, submit them as an attachment to the address itprotect@umass.edu following the steps below.

Forward an email as an attachment from Microsoft Outlook

  1. Open a new message addressed to itprotect@umass.edu.
  2. Drag the phishing message from your spam folder or inbox into the new message and send.

Forward an email as an attachment from Outlook Web App

  1. Right click on the phishing message.
  2. Select Forward as Attachment. A new message opens.
  3. Address the new message to itprotect@umass.edu and send.

Forward an email as an attachment from Apple Mail

  1. Right click on the phishing message.
  2. Select Forward As Attachment. A new message opens.
  3. Address the new message to itprotect@umass.edu and send.

Report Phishing in Google Apps

  1. Open the message. Click the disclosure next to the reply button.
  2. Select Show Original, copy all the information that appears, and paste into a new message.
  3. Address the new message to itprotect@umass.edu and send.
