Use the instructions below to set up Microsoft Outlook email on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad in the default Mail app.
For the best experience and easiest setup, we recommend using the Outlook mobile app instead.
Some members of the campus community report problems accessing university accounts with the default Mail app on iPhone. If you are unable to access your email, please try the Outlook mobile app using the instructions at the link below.
Set up the Outlook mobile app on iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch
Set up Microsoft 365 Email in the default Mail app on iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch
- Make sure your device is connected to the internet.
Configure your iOS device to connect to eduroam to use the secure campus network if you have not already done so. - Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap Mail.
- in the Mail settings page, tap Accounts.
- Tap Add account.
- Tap Microsoft Outlook
- In the Email field, enter netid@umass.edu where netid is your IT Account NetID, followed by@umass.edu.
This is not necessarily the same as your email address. Your actual email address will be used when sending messages. - In the Description field, type a description of the account for your reference (e.g., 'Work' or 'UMass Amherst').
- Tap Next.
- Tap Sign in. You may be directed to a Microsoft sign-in page.
- Enter netid@umass.edu and tap Next.
- Enter your password and tap Sign in.
- You may be asked to verify your identity with two-step login. Follow the prompts on your devices to finish signing in.
- In the Outlook dialog box, tap Save in the upper right.
- To confirm your email has been set up correctly, open the Mail app and send a message to yourself. Confirm the message appears in your inbox.
