USB-C//Thunderbolt 3 port (2015 MacBook and later) in EchoVideo-equipped classrooms. This issue does not affect Windows laptops.
If you are using EchoVideo classroom capture and connecting your Apple laptop to the audio/visual (A/V) system via HDMI or USB-C/Thunderbolt 3, you can tell if your computer is blocking EchoVideo from receiving a signal if you see a green screen instead of the laptop's content (e.g., slides) on your processed EchoVideo recording (see image below).
(Blocked signal from Apple laptop) (Room video)
For Macs with Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports: Use a USB-C to HDMI adapter.
Adapters can be purchased from the UMass Amherst Campus Store, Apple, and other retailers (e.g., Amazon).
If you need help figuring out what adapter you need to connect your Apple laptop to a particular EchoVideo classroom, or training on how to use the A/V system for your classroom, contact UMass Amherst IT Classroom Technology Support (CTS) at either cts@it.umass.edu or call 413-545-5768 (8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Mon- Fri).
