Azure Tools for Students (formerly known as Azure Dev Tools for Teaching, Microsoft Imagine Premium, or Microsoft Dreamspark) offers eligible UMass Amherst students, faculty, and staff a wide range of Microsoft products at no cost.

Microsoft Office is not available through Azure Tools for Students, but is available at no cost for students, faculty, and staff through Office 365. Sign in with your UMass Amherst account. 

Access Azure Tools for Students – Use Non-UMass Account 

⚠️ To access Azure Tools for Students, you will need to sign in with a personal (not work or school), non-UMass Microsoft account.  
If you don’t have one, first create a personal Microsoft account by going to account.microsoft.com in a private or incognito browser window.  
Click Sign in, then Create one!, and follow the steps to finish creating your account.

1. In a private or incognito browser window, go to azureforeducation.microsoft.com/devtools and click Start Free
2. Sign in with your non-UMass, non work or school personal Microsoft account.
   1. On the Student Verification page, enter your information.
   2. Enter University of Massachusetts Amherst in the School name field.
3. Enter your UMass Amherst email address in the School Email field.
4. Click Verify academic status and accept terms.
5. Copy the verification link you receive via email from Microsoft Vetting Services, and paste it into your private or incognito browser window.
6. In your private or incognito browser window, go to portal.azure.com/#blade/Microsoft_Azure_Education/EducationMenuBlade/software
   1. If you continue to see a message saying that you still need to sign up for Azure for Students, refresh the page.
   2. If you see a message requesting that you accept the terms for Azure for Students, click Accept Terms.
7. Click the name of a product to view keys and download. 

 

Eligibility & Restrictions

Azure Tools for Students is available to: 

• Full-time undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in at least one Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) course at UMass Amherst 
• Full-time faculty and staff who work in a Microsoft defined STEM department at UMass Amherst 
  • Faculty and staff can use software for educational and research purposes only.  

Additional details & restrictions 

• Retirees and part-time faculty and staff are not eligible for this program. 
• Each eligible individual is entitled to one key per product to install on a single computer. 
  • Additional keys will not be available if reinstallation is required. 

Available Software

Azure offers over 60 products, including:

• Windows operating systems (e.g., Windows 10) 
• Select Microsoft software (e.g., MS Project, MS Visio) 
• Microsoft developer tools (e.g., Windows CE .NET) 
• Windows server operating systems & applications.
