What is InfoBlox DNS Firewall? 

Infoblox DNS Firewall is malware protection and Domain Name Service (DNS) that blocks access to known bad domains. This service aims to reduce the number of malware infections caused by drive-by downloads, malicious downloads, and phishing, and will reduce the effectiveness of botnet infections on University computers.

How does Infoblox DNS Firewall work? 

Domain Name Service (DNS) translates an Internet domain name into a numerical IP address. DNS servers receive a domain query from a client and returns an IP address, connecting the client to the site they requested. Infoblox maintains a list of known harmful sites and denies connection to clients that request a site on their blacklist. 

How will Infoblox DNS Firewall affect me?

You should not see any changes. If you try to visit a domain that is on Infoblox's blacklist, you will see a block page indicating that the domain hosts known malicious content and has been blocked. 

Infoblox is blocking a legitimate domain. What should I do?

Occasionally, Infoblox will block a legitimate domain. If you believe the domain you attempted to access is legitimate, please contact the IT Help Center. They will investigate the issue and, if necessary, suggest that Infoblox remove the site from its blacklist.

Will Infoblox filter the Web content I see?

Infoblox DNS Firewall at UMass Amherst is strictly a malware protection tool and does not block Web pages based on their subject matter or content. Web pages are only blocked if they are suspected to contain malware or other malicious content.
