Faculty, staff & students must contact and work with their IT support team of their college or department to dispose of their computer, electronic and magnetic media. This is required for the equipment to be properly removed from the University Asset Management System.

The UMass Amherst Property Office and Office of Waste Management provide departments, faculty, and staff with a convenient, no cost way to dispose of and recycle computers and electronic and magnetic storage media. This service, implemented by the IT support team, is designed to help University departments comply with state and federal laws, and University policies, and helps reduce the risk of data exposure by securely disposing of computers and storage media.
