We will not activate Ethernet jacks in residence halls with wireless connectivity. Disabling Ethernet jacks has allowed us to focus resources on one type of network.
The UMASS-DEVICES network provides wireless connectivity for select streaming devices and gaming consoles (e.g. Roku/Chromecast, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch).
UMass Amherst IT does not officially support connecting video game consoles to the eduroam network. Some types of wireless-enabled consoles and smart devices may be able to connect to the UMASS-DEVICES network and log in using their built-in Web browsers.

All students, faculty, and staff can create sponsored guest accounts for individual guests. Additionally, starting Thursday, November 30, 2023, campus guests will be able to self-register for wireless access with an sms code. Learn more about how to get guests connected
Some residence halls feature inactive wired internet ports which have been replaced by wireless network infrastructure. Ethernet wiring in residence halls became outdated and could not support modern network speeds. The current wireless network is designed to accommodate student needs.
