Getting Started with EchoVideo for Students


EchoVideo is an online learning platform that many instructors use to post recordings of in-person lectures or to share course content for flipped or team-based learning classes. 

As a student, you can useEchoVideo to review past lectures in preparation for an exam, view presentation slides, or ask questions about course content. This page describes EchoVideo's key features to assist you in participating in classes and using study tools.

Access EchoVideo

The recommended way to access EchoVideo is through your Canvas course page, and then following links posted by your instructor. These links will log you into EchoVideo automatically. 

Or you can log in to EchoVideo directly with your NetID and password, and view the EchoVideo recordings there.

Configure the settings for Apple products: macOS, ios…

If you will be using Apple devices for watching EchoVideo recordings, you will need to make sure that you have followed the steps to configure the Privacy Settings (allowing cookies) in Safari before accessing the EchoVideo recordings. 

You are also recommended to read through the EchoVideo: Safari Recommended Browser Configuration to use the browser that’s best suited for EchoVideo recordings. 

Download the EchoVideo(Echo360) mobile app

Use the EchoVideo App to view lecture slides, watch course videos on demand, and ask questions/participate in discussion via your smartphone or tablet. Log into the app by using your netID@umass.edu address.

Create a study guide

EchoVideo is a useful tool for studying or reviewing past class sessions. The Study Guide feature compiles your notes, questions, and bookmarks from a class session for easy review.

  1. Log into echo360.umass.edu, navigate to EchoVideo Home, then select COURSES and the course you want to review. A list of all classes for that course appears.
  2. Select STUDY GUIDE. The Study Guide page opens.
  3. Select the class title you want to review from the drop-down menu. Any notes you have taken, questions you have asked, or parts of the class you have bookmarked displays in the left panel.
    • Select a bookmark displays the lecture video at the corresponding time in the right panel.
    • Select a question shows the related discussion thread in the right panel.
  4. Select DOWNLOAD to download a text version of your notes (including time stamps that correspond to the video).

Ways to engage with EchoVideo recordings

EchoVideo tracks your class attendance and participation. Some instructors may use this information to calculate your participation grade, based on the following:
