iClicker Classic is a program that allows instructors to collect real-time data from their students during lecture. Students are polled and provide their responses via handheld clickers. The responses can be displayed immediately, and individual responses are stored for potential use in grading. To download and run iClicker Classic:

  1. Download and unzip either the Windows or Mac version of the software:
Go to: umass.edu/it/ars/request-iclicker-software and fill out the software request form. You will receive an email with download links.
  2. Unzip and place the iClicker Classic software folder in an easy to find the location on your computer (or on a USB drive).
  3. Connect the iClicker base receiver to your computer through a USB port.
Note: To be sure the base receiver has sufficient power, plug it directly into a computer. Do not connect it through a keyboard USB port or a non-powered USB hub. If you are running iClicker Classic from a flash drive, connect the iClicker flash drive to the USB port on the back of the iClicker base receiver.
  4. Open the iClicker Classic folder that you unzipped and double-click the iClicker Classic application. (Consider placing an alias or shortcut on your desktop for easy access.) The Register your iClicker Classic window opens. Registering your iClicker is optional.
  5. Once you submit your personal information or choose to click on Remind me later, The iClicker Classic window opens.
  6. After opening the UMass Amherst iClicker Classic software, click Help in the top Menu and select "Check for Update" to update to the most current version of iClicker Classic. Most software updates are optional; however, we recommend that you keep your iClicker Classic current to help your classes run smoothly.
  7. After updating your software, click Create (at bottom left) to add a course to iClicker Classic. The New Course window opens.
  8. On the New Course window, enter your Course Name, then click Create.
  9. Repeat steps 5-6 to create as many courses or sections as you need. Once you have created your course(s) you are ready to Run a Polling Session in iClicker Classic.
