Privacy

Advisors, find out if your advisee has requested extra privacy protection.

    1. In SPIRE, navigate to your advisee's Student Center..
    2. On the Student Center tab:
      • Look at the upper right corner of the page, after the ID and above the academics tab. If your advisee has requested extra privacy protection, you will see the FERPA flag (privacy blind).
      • Click the FERPA flag. The Releasable FERPA Directory Information page opens. Note: Do not release even so-called releasable information to anyone except the student, unless it is a normal part of your job.
    3. On the Releasable FERPA Directory Information page:
      • View releasable directory information
      • To view releasable academic information, click Releasable Academics.
      • To view releasable attendance information, click Releasable Attendance
      • Click Return to go back to your advisee's Student Center.

Holds

Advisors, find out if your advisee has a hold (a.k.a. negative service indicator) on his or her record.

  1. In SPIRE, navigate to your advisee's Student Center..
  2. On the Student Center tab:
    • Look at the upper right corner of the page, after the ID and above the academics tab. If your advisee has a hold, you will see the Negative Service Indicator icon (Red circle with slash through it).
    • Click the Negative Service Indicator icon to learn more about the hold. The Manage Service Indicators page opens.
  3. On the Manage Service Indicators page:
    • View details of the hold.
    • Use ourĀ Add & Remove Service Indicators guide to learn more about student holds, including how to add or remove them, if you have access to do so.
    • Click Cancel to go back to your advisee's Student Center.
