Visiting campus? Having friends over? Get your campus guests connected using the UMASS wireless network.

Campus Guest Wireless

As of Thursday, November 30th, 2023, campus guests can select the UMASS wireless network on their device (cell phone, laptop, etc.) and enter their cell phone number to receive a one-week Guest PIN via text. Once guests enter the pin, they can immediately access the UMass Amherst wireless network for up to one week

Note: UMass students, faculty, staff, and other NetID users are strongly encouraged to connect to the University's secure wireless network, eduroam

Note: Sharing your NetID and password violates the Acceptable Use Policy. If you share this information with others, you will be held accountable for their activities on the network.

Sponsored Guests

UMass Amherst students, faculty, and staff can use SPIRE to create temporary sponsored guest accounts in advance for visitors who need access to the UMass wireless network. Sponsored guest accounts can last for up to 72 hours. The 72-hour limit may be extended to one week if the account is used within 3 days. If you are a faculty or staff member and need a guest account that is valid longer than three days, have your guest fill out a Courtesy Account (NENS) form.

Set up sponsored guest account

  1. In SPIRE, go to Profile > IT Accounts & Certifications > Manage Guest Accounts

  2. On the Manage Guest Accounts page:

    • In the Guest Name field, enter your guest's full name.

    • Click Create Guest Account.

  3. On the Terms of Use page, read the IT Acceptable Use Policy and the text on the page. If you agree, click I Agree

  4. Take note of the Account Name. Print the confirmation page for your records. The account information is also emailed to your campus email address.

  5. Click Set Account Password at My IT Accounts

  6. On the My IT Accounts - Account List page, click the Account Name for the account you just created. The type will be Guest and the expiration date will be three days away.

  7. On the My IT Accounts - Account Detail page, click Change Password and follow the instructions. Your guest will use the password you create to connect to the UMASS wireless network.

  8. Give your guest:

    • A copy of the confirmation page (or forward the email you received when you created the account)
    • A copy of the IT Acceptable Use Policy
    • The guest wireless account password (the password is not included in the confirmation email).

Once your sponsored guest account has been created, your guest can use the account to access the UMASS network on campus.
